Artist Statement-

The themes of my imagery ranges from interpretive depictions of scenes I view in daily occurrence to abstract delineations of emotions brought into physical representations. My work tends to be in reaction to my surroundings and often results in satire or societal commentary.

I do not limit the way I depict the subject matter of my work and constantly move into new forms of expression and exploration. From a background of pseudo-surrealistic imagery, manipulating perceptions of a two-dimensional picture plane has been the main focus of my past work. More recently I have been adopting an impressionist way of achieving “likeness” through mark making that can stand alone as marks as well as simultaneously be utilized for representation.

Woodcuts and oil based monotypes are my medium of choice. Woodcuts are very exacting and inflexible while the nature of oil based monotype is spontaneous and malleable. Going back and forth between the two affords me a balance of rigidity and expressional freedom that has become essential to my art-making practice.
